GVC News & Announcements
NEW! (Posted November 8, 2012) West Desert Trails - Within the past 10 years a group of interested bikers and hikers known as the West Desert Preserve Committee worked with the County to use and preserve the area between the west boundary of Green Valley and the Freeport McMoRan mine.  This group received support from most of the GVC member HOAs, voicing their hope to preserve this area for biking and hiking recreation.

As you know, Freeport bought this land to be used as a buffer between Green Valley and the mine and to construct a series of mitigation wells to stop the sulfur plume from moving into our drinking water.  The GVC was very supportive of this purchase. As a good neighbor, Freeport desires to keep the “West Desert Preserve” available for biking and hiking.  They have renamed the area as “West Desert Trails”.  They have created a website:  http://wdtrails.com  for anyone who wants to bike or hike.  They ask for interested users to request a free permit. They will then be able to send out notifications of closed areas or new well construction locations.  They also ask, for liability reasons, that visitors read the do’s and don’ts.

The Committee asks for anyone interested in this area for recreation, to please register for the permit.  It is important that Freeport knows of the community support and interest for the ability to bike and hike on the West Desert Trails.
